Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about donations, volunteering and how we work. Can't find an answer? Drop us a line.
Donations
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Individuals in Bulgaria can deduct up to 5% of their taxable income through donations to registered non-profits. A donation certificate is issued on request.
Where does every cent go?
Every donation goes straight to the causes — the foundation keeps nothing for itself. The only deduction is the payment provider's fee, taken by the bank or card operator at the moment of payment; it never passes through us. We publish an annual financial report.
How can I donate?
By card, Apple Pay or Google Pay — on a single screen on the Donate page, one-off or monthly.
Can I cancel my monthly donation?
Yes, at any time. After your first monthly donation you get an email with a management link — cancel or change the amount there in one click.
How can a company donate, and what paperwork do we get?
Companies donate by bank transfer or card, one-off or monthly. Write to info@surya.bg and we'll agree the paperwork your accounting team needs.
Is a company donation tax-recognised?
Under Bulgarian corporate tax law, donations to public-benefit non-profits are recognised for tax purposes up to 10% of the positive accounting profit. Check your specific case with your accountant.
Can I donate goods instead of money?
Yes. We've received clothes, toys, books, shoes, laptops and equipment. Tell us what you have and we'll check which service actually needs it.
Volunteering
How can I become a volunteer?
Fill in the form on the “Become a volunteer” page. We get in touch within 48 hours and invite you to the nearest suitable event.
Do I need to be an expert to help?
No. We need volunteers on the ground (planting, clean-ups), pro-bono specialists (lawyers, psychologists, designers) and company teams. There's a place for everyone.
Can our company team join on site?
Yes — we've done it with company teams at plantings, clean-ups and renovations of social services. Tell us how many of you there are and when, and we'll find the fit.
About the foundation
Is the foundation officially registered?
Yes. The Surya Foundation is entered in the Central Register of non-profit legal entities operating for public benefit.
Who decides which cause gets supported?
Campaigns start from a specific request by a social service or institution — a crisis centre, a day centre, a family-type home. The team verifies the need on site before the campaign goes live.
Will I find out what happened to my donation?
Yes. For every campaign we publish what was bought and how it reached people — with photos and video from the site. Annual financial reports are in the Reports section.
Technical
How do I get a donation certificate?
Tick “I want a donation certificate” when you give and you'll receive it as a PDF by email. You need the certificate for the tax deduction.
