Renovating the playground at the "Lyubov" and "Nadezhda" family-type care homes for children and young people with disabilities in Lovech

About this cause

The campaign aims to renovate the existing playground in the yard of the "Lyubov" and "Nadezhda" family-type care homes for children and young people with disabilities in Lovech. This will happen by replacing the worn-out and damaged equipment with new equipment that is safe and suitable for both children and young people.

The yard of the centres already has a playground with a rubberised shock-absorbing surface, which is a really good base for safe play and movement. But the equipment on it is badly worn — some pieces are damaged or broken, and some are no longer safe to use.
On top of that, the existing equipment is designed mainly for small children, which makes it unsuitable or hard to use for the young people staying at the centres.
That's why the campaign plans to replace the existing equipment with new pieces that will be sturdier, more stable and suitable for a wider age range.

The yard of the centres is one of the few spaces where the children and young people can move around freely, play and connect. For them, this place matters not just for physical activity, but for emotional and social development too.
Both children and young people with disabilities live at the centres. With people who have intellectual disabilities, you often see that their interests and ways of playing stay close to those of children, regardless of their age. That's why the chance to swing, play on the playground or simply spend time outside means a lot in their day-to-day lives.
Physical development
Playground equipment encourages movement and helps develop coordination, balance and motor skills. Regular physical activity is an important part of maintaining good health and energy.
Emotional wellbeing
Outdoor play brings joy, reduces stress and creates a sense of freedom. For many of the children and young people, the playground is a place where they can relax, have fun and experience positive emotions.
Social skills
Shared play creates chances to connect and build relationships. The children and young people learn to take turns, share and spend time together.
The renovated playground will be a shared space for play and activity for both the children and young people at "Lyubov" and the residents of "Nadezhda".

The "Nadezhda" and "Lyubov" family-type care homes for children and young people with disabilities in Lovech were set up under the project "Providing effective social infrastructure offering services for children at risk in Lovech municipality", funded by the "Regional Development" Operational Programme.
The social service is run by the "Civic Initiatives – Lovech" Association.
Target group
The centres provide care for:
• children with disabilities who can't be raised in their biological family, with close relatives or in a foster family
• young people aged 18 to 29 with disabilities who can't be supported in a family setting or live independently
Capacity
Each centre has 14 places, including 2 for crisis placement.
Main activities
The centres provide:
• shelter, food and basic care
• health care and access to specialised medical help
• psychological support
• access to education
• developing skills for independent living
• organising leisure and free time
• work with parents, families, institutions and the community

For the children and young people at these centres, the yard is part of their home. Renovating the playground will give them the chance to play safely, move more and spend time together in a setting that brings joy and calm.
