On 7 and 8 November, the Surya Foundation carried out one of its biggest autumn plantings in the Kremikovtsi district. Over two days in a row, teams of volunteers, corporate partners and local residents joined forces to plant 200 young trees — sycamores and ash trees, chosen for their resilience and their ability to adapt to an urban environment.
The campaign covered five different spots across the district:
Seslavtsi neighbourhood — the yard of the “Zvezditsa” kindergarten
Kremikovtsi neighbourhood — the small park behind the town hall and the children's playground
Botunets neighbourhood — the playing field next to the Hospital and the adjoining children's area
Buhovo village — the town park and the small park behind the Cultural Centre
Yana village — the little park around the main square
Each location was prepared in advance, and the planting was done with a professional eye on the soil, the spacing and the needs of the trees. The experience and enthusiasm of the volunteers made the process both effective and inspiring.
A major contribution to the success of the campaign came from the teams at AstraZeneca and other corporate partners, whose commitment showed how business can be a driver of positive change. Their employees didn't just help — they got actively involved, with heart and willingness, turning the initiative into an example of collective care for nature.
“The Big Planting” reminded us once again that lasting change starts with persistence and community involvement. Every tree we plant is an investment in Sofia's future — cleaner, greener and more caring towards the people who live in it.
Thank you to everyone who gave their time, work and support to make this meaningful effort happen.
