"Beyond the Bridge" 2025 — the first step towards an annual tradition with heart

On 14 June 2025, the Lovech region was filled with energy, inspiration and a real sense of togetherness. The first edition of the "Beyond the Bridge" initiative took place — an independent running and cycling race organised by Surya Foundation. The event brought together hundreds of participants from across the country around one shared goal: sport in the name of a cause that makes a real difference.
The routes ran through some of the most beautiful and meaningful places in the Lovech region — the Devetashko Plateau, Kakrina Inn, Hisarya Fortress and the Covered Bridge in Lovech. Every participant could choose a distance that suited them, and the focus wasn't only on the physical challenge — it was on the message behind every step: solidarity, support and movement with meaning.
This year's main focus was supporting the Home for adults with physical disabilities in the village of Slivek. It's a place where 40 people with severe physical conditions live — people for whom rehabilitation isn't a luxury, but a vital necessity. Right now, the home doesn't have a specialised physiotherapy room, which makes daily life for the residents even harder.

Thanks to the "Beyond the Bridge" participants and the entry fees collected, 4,758.60 BGN — 20% of the total — went towards building a fully equipped rehabilitation room. It'll be a space for movement, recovery and a dignified life for the people in the Slivek home.
The event wouldn't have been possible without the active support of hundreds of volunteers, partners, donors and media friends. Thank you to everyone who joined in — with your time, your energy, your belief that every action matters. For us, this wasn't just a sporting event. It was a gathering of people with a cause, with faith, and with a real wish to do good.
"Beyond the Bridge" is the first step in building an annual initiative that will keep bringing the sports community and local people together around important social issues. Our ambition is to turn this event into a tradition — not just as a race, but as a symbol of movement towards a brighter, more solidary and more dignified future for everyone.
