A minibus for the sheltered home in Strazhitsa

About this cause

Dear friends, the Surya Foundation is raising funds to buy a minibus for the sheltered home in Strazhitsa. The home for people with intellectual disabilities is currently home to 5 women and 3 men; five of them live with permanent disabilities and need additional care and help. The team does everything it can, but the lack of its own transport limits what the service can offer — and Strazhitsa has no public transport at all.

Right now the home relies on shared official transport or on the staff's personal cars to get its residents to medical care and specialist consultations, most of which are in Veliko Tarnovo, about 40 km away. The absence of regular public transport and medical infrastructure in town makes the situation harder still.

Why does a minibus of their own matter? They will be able to take the residents to check-ups, therapy and urgent consultations without depending on outside transport that is unreliable and unsuited to their needs. They will be able to organise outings, walks and holidays — moments of joy that are also an important part of supporting the residents' intellectual and physical development. And we will secure a far better, more dignified quality of life for the people who call this sheltered home their home. The funds raised will buy an 8+1-seat minibus that meets all of the service's needs.
