A home with dignity: replacing the laminate flooring in two rooms at the Sheltered home in Strazhitsa

Surya Foundation is running a campaign as the next stage of our wider project to renovate and improve the Sheltered home for people with intellectual disabilities in Strazhitsa. In this stage we're raising funds to replace the laminate flooring in two of the residents' rooms.

These aren't just repairs — they're real steps towards a healthier, safer and calmer environment for the people who live in the home. The floor is part of their everyday life and directly affects hygiene, comfort and the sense of safety.
The existing flooring in both rooms is badly worn, hard to clean and creates extra risks. The new laminate floor will be more hard-wearing, easy to look after and will significantly improve conditions in the rooms.
The first stage of the project is already complete — we secured funds to renovate the kitchen in the home. Up next is organising the renovation and updating the kitchen space, which is a key place both for daily meals and for some of the residents' therapy activities.

Together we'll renovate two of the residents' rooms at the Sheltered home in Strazhitsa, by:
removing the old, worn and hard-to-clean laminate;
laying a new, hard-wearing and easy-to-maintain floor;
improving hygiene and comfort in the rooms;
creating a nicer, calmer setting for the young people's everyday lives.
The renovation will be tailored to the needs of the people living in the rooms and to the daily activities they do there.

Because a home isn't just a roof and furniture. The floor you step on every day matters — for cleanliness, for safety, for the feeling that the space is cared for and that someone is looking out for you. Right now, part of the flooring in the home is badly worn, which makes cleaning hard and creates a sense of neglect. By replacing the laminate, we're not just doing repairs — we're showing these young people that they deserve an environment that respects their dignity and their efforts to be more independent.
Administrative fee: 7% of the donated amount goes towards covering Surya Foundation's administrative costs, which ensure the effective management and transparency of the campaign.
