Let's grow together: a vegetable greenhouse at the family-type care homes for children in Borovan

About this cause

By running this campaign, we'll build a vegetable greenhouse on the grounds of the centres in Borovan, by:
creating the conditions for year-round or extended growing of vegetables and herbs;
increasing the yield and variety of fresh food for the children;
supporting the centre's independence and resilience;
expanding the existing garden with a space for learning and practice.

The greenhouse will be put to active use, both for feeding the children and as part of their daily activities.
At the family-type care homes for children in Borovan, the yard is already a lively place — with fruit trees, a vegetable garden and daily care that the children take part in alongside the team. What's grown there feeds them and is a natural part of life at the centre.
With this campaign, Surya Foundation is taking the next logical step — building a vegetable greenhouse that will allow fresh vegetables and herbs to be grown over a longer stretch of the year. The goal isn't just more quality food, but also more chances to learn through practice, responsibility and care.
For the children, who call the centre home, the greenhouse will be a place where work has meaning, and the result is seen, shared and used every day.

There are currently 20 children living at the family-type care homes for children without disabilities in Borovan, with the service's capacity at 24. It's where they grow up, learn to be independent and build life skills until they come of age or find a permanent family.
The centres are housed in the building of a former kindergarten, which is currently undergoing a full renovation to create a safe, cosy and calm environment, close to a family home.

Building a vegetable greenhouse is much more than a gardening initiative. For the children, it will be:
a living classroom, where they learn through doing;
a way to build responsibility, patience and work habits;
a chance to develop environmental thinking and respect for nature;
a space for picking up life skills — from care and planning to cooking and saving resources;
a source of satisfaction and self-confidence when they see the result of their work.

Every bit of support is an investment in the health, development and future of children growing up without the support of a biological family.
With this campaign, we're helping these children have not just a place to live, but a real home where they learn how to care for themselves and the world around them. Thank you for being with us.
