Support to improve the environment at the "Sveta Marina" Day Centre

About this cause

Surya Foundation is launching a new donation campaign in support of the "Sveta Marina" Day Centre for adults with disabilities in Sofia — a place that provides care, learning and support every day for young people with disabilities. The campaign's goal is specific and entirely focused on improving the environment where the students and team at the centre spend the active part of their day.

Each learning group includes 22 to 23 young people, with whom an occupational therapist, social worker, social therapist and other specialists work daily under an approved programme. The dining rooms are a key space in the centre. The students eat there three times a day, culinary therapy sessions take place there, and a significant part of the day is spent there. During the summer months, the rooms heat up heavily, which creates discomfort and makes the learning and therapy process difficult. Providing air conditioners will allow cooling in the hot season and heating in the transitional months. That means a more stable environment, better concentration and calmer work for both students and team.

Sound system for the centre's corridors
Music therapy is one of the most effective and beloved therapies for the students at the centre. It supports emotional wellbeing, communication and a sense of safety. The corridors are spaces where the students spend time throughout the day — when arriving and leaving, during transitions between activities and at meetings with parents and loved ones. Adding sound to them will let music therapy step outside the classrooms and become part of the everyday environment. That way the atmosphere at the centre will be calmer, more positive and more welcoming for everyone.

Supporting people with disabilities is supporting equality and a dignified life. The quality of the environment where people learn and work has a direct effect on each person's development, confidence and everyday comfort. With this campaign, we're contributing to better conditions for over 40 young people, more effective therapy work and a lasting improvement in the care at the "Sveta Marina" Day Centre.

Every form of help makes a real difference and contributes to a concrete, measurable change in the daily lives of the people who rely on this centre.
