Home appliances for adults with intellectual disabilities

We successfully wrapped up our “Home appliances for adults with intellectual disabilities” charity campaign, which the Surya Foundation launched in support of the Sheltered Home for adults with intellectual disabilities in Strazhitsa.
A special thank you to the Minimart grocery chain, who became the main donor for this campaign. Thank you also to the ZORA appliance store chain, who joined us as a partner and supplied the appliances we needed at their wholesale prices. And thank you to Hristo Georgiev, a volunteer who gave up his personal time to use his van to deliver the appliances from the courier company's warehouse in Lyaskovets to the Sheltered Home in Strazhitsa, so the appliances would arrive on time together with the Minimart donors and could be handed over like real gifts.
Minimart made a donation of BGN 4,000 — BGN 2,000 was raised from the company's employees, and the other BGN 2,000 was donated by the company itself. Our campaign to buy the home appliances won an internal vote among employees by a huge majority.
It was originally planned for a professional washing machine, dryer and fridge, but in the meantime a private donor had provided a fridge. Another need at the Sheltered Home was a colour multifunction printer, to print out educational materials for the residents and photos of them — to help make the place feel even more like a real home.

With the donations, we bought the appliances we needed from the ZORA store chain, who provided top-class appliances at their wholesale prices and delivered them for free.
The Minimart team went on-site to hand over their donations in person to the “kids” at the Sheltered Home as gifts — even wrapped with ribbons. They even helped personally with installing the appliances, which turned out to be quite a challenging job. The meeting was very emotional.
