Appliances for people with intellectual disabilities

About this cause

The Surya Foundation is raising funds for three appliances — a washing machine, a tumble dryer and a fridge — for the sheltered home for people with intellectual disabilities in Strazhitsa. Caring for the residents is hard right now: their disabilities mean very specific needs, and the carers wash large amounts of clothing and bed linen every single day. Ordinary washing machines wear out fast — the home needs two to cope with the daily load, and only one still works. A semi-professional machine, with a much larger drum built for constant use, would make caring for the hygiene and health of people who cannot look after themselves noticeably easier.

The home's dryer is broken too, and in winter drying clothes outside is impossible — so everything hangs indoors, taking up space and raising the humidity. A new dryer is the residents' most urgent need.

And there is good news: during the campaign, kind donors provided the fridge that was so badly needed. The residents also need a colour multifunction printer for printing teaching materials — important both for developing the skills of young people with delayed development and multiple disabilities, and for making the staff's work easier. With this campaign we aim to improve these people's quality of life by bringing comfort and independence into their daily routine. Help them with a donation — it will be a ray of light.
