“Christmas in a Box for children and young people without parents 2025” — gifts, visits and care that goes on

In winter 2025, the Surya Foundation ran the “Christmas in a Box” charity campaign, dedicated to children and young people living in social services without parental care. The campaign was carried out in partnership with the Bulgarian Yoga Association and covered 13 social services across 7 towns and villages, including Borovan, Vratsa, Gavril Genovo, Samokov, Cherven Bryag, Strazhitsa and Veliko Tarnovo. The campaign, started years ago by the Bulgarian Yoga Association, has been supporting most of these centres for years. And thanks to our successful partnership with the Surya Foundation, we managed to add new social centres and more children to the care that this and our other campaigns provide.
The first phase of the initiative was entirely focused on the personal gift. Through a dedicated platform, donors had the chance to choose a specific gift for a specific child — so every wish was seen, honoured and fulfilled. Thanks to the compassion of dozens of donors, all the individual gifts were ready in time for Christmas.
After the first phase wrapped up, the campaign naturally carried on. At the request of the social centres, a list of shared essential needs was put together — food products, hygiene supplies, bed linen, household items, equipment and more. Thanks to the extra support, some of these needs were covered too, to help give the children and young people better, more dignified daily lives. With the money raised through donations during the campaign, we'll be covering the rest of the shared needs at the social centres soon.
A particularly emotional part of the campaign were the personal visits to the homes. Representatives of the Surya Foundation and the Bulgarian Yoga Association were there for the gift-giving and became part of the Christmas celebrations prepared by the children and the teams at the social services. Songs, dances, poems and special festive programmes filled these visits with warmth and meaning. The children's smiles and excitement showed they felt seen, cared for and loved. “Christmas in a Box for children and young people without parents 2025” proved that real support doesn't end with the gift. It carries on with care, presence and consistency.
