Gifts for joy

People in crisis living in crisis centres remain one of the most important parts of our social work. That's why, at Christmas, we wanted to bring them joy too — to show them that besides the people who can hurt or harm, there are also people who are kind, caring and there to support them.
We wanted this campaign to reach as far as possible. So, thanks to your generous donations, we organised gifts for the children at the Crisis Centre for children — victims of trafficking or violence — in the village of Balvan, and for the children and adults at the "Tarnovgrad" Crisis Centre in Veliko Tarnovo. The gifts were bought from mothers of children with disabilities through the platform https://kupipodarak.com/.
For the children in Balvan, we brought hand-knitted winter scarves and lots of treats to make the holiday feel real. They were waiting for us with a mix of nerves and positive excitement. Even though they stayed shy right to the end of our visit, they told us a lot about themselves — about their days, school, their games, their friendships, and the social workers who care for them with such special love…
In Tarnovgrad we handed out hand-knitted baby sets to the four babies, a "Svetulcho" set with an educational children's book, a bookmark, a ruler and other little treasures for the children under 7, and lovely warm scarves with special messages on them for all the older children and adults.
Everyone was thrilled with their gifts. The happiest of all were the little ones with their "Svetulcho" sets, and two young people — a boy and a girl — with their colourful, modern scarves. The most moved was the oldest woman — not so much by her gift as by the card with a heartfelt message from the mother of a child with disabilities who made it. In the middle of all this, an unexpected donation of kitchen utensils arrived, and they turned out to be exactly what the Crisis Centre needed for the holidays.
A special thank-you to Nikoleta Krivcheva from "Knitted with Love" in Asenovgrad, who donated hand-knitted Christmas slippers and a bowl of knitted fruit. With the slippers we brought joy to the social workers in Tarnovgrad, who work day and night, tirelessly supporting people in crisis. And the bowl of fruit stayed for educational work with the children at the crisis centre. Good always finds a way.
